The Trinidad and Tobago Shipbuilding & Repair Maritime Cluster (TTSRMC) started as a diversification initiative of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Government of Trinidad and Tobago in 2008. Its commercial entity, known as Shipbuilding & Repair Development Company of Trinidad & Tobago Limited (SRDC) is the project developer and was legally incorporated by the Office of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs on the 18th August, 2009 as a 'For Profit' Company in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, under THE COMPANIES ACT, 1995.
SRDC is open to potential new partners, though the company remains the project owner until a final investment decision occurs. To date, the shipyard has attracted investment interest from Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America, Dubai, Belgium and the People's Republic of China.

ENDORSED BY STAKEHOLDERS
To date we have managed to successfully gain the endorsement of the LGC (formerly La Brea Concerned Citizens United) and many organizations (local and foreign) that support this viable initiative which will help to i) urgently diversify our economy. ii) earn valuable Foreign Exchange (FOREX). iii) utilize local products and services in the project construction and in the operational phases and iv) Hire unemployed workers who were recently retrenched.
The various communities which comprise a number of small coastal villages have jointly come together and incorporated the La Brea General Council - (LGC) which has representatives from each of the various village councils and community groups on-board.
Overall, our stakeholders and country will benefit from this undertaking, as the USD500 Million Shipyard project will also have a high level of local content.
